So, we found out on April 14, 2013 that I am having a little bundle of joy! The news was a shock but we're very excited and here's where I'll be documenting my pregnancy and counting down to my due date of December 20, 2013.
Current status: Archie arrived on 25.12.13
I thought it would be fun to indulge some of the theories out there that attempt to guess what gender the baby is before the parents find out. Here's where I'll use those theories and see which one's tell me I'm having a girl, and which say I'm having a boy. I'll find out the gender at my 20 week scan and be able to tell you which one's rang true for me.
If your baby is flat from eyebrow to forehead, it may be a boy, whereas if the forehead is noticeably rounder from the eyes upwards, you could be having a girl.
RESULT: Girl! See 12 week scan pic.
The gender of your baby is predicted based on the month of conception and the mother's birthday - both expressed as dates in the Chinese lunar calendar.
Legend has it that the Mayans determined a baby's sex by looking at the mother's age at conception and the year of conception. If both are even or odd, it's a girl. If one's even and one's odd, it's a boy.
As the old wives' tale has it, if your unborn baby's heart rate is higher, above 140 beats per minute, that means you're carrying a girl. A lower heart rate below 140 bpm means you're having a boy.
RESULT: Girl! (145bpm-153bpm)
You put baking soda in the bottom of a disposable cup (enough to barely cover the bottom) and then add a little bit of your urine to it. If it fizzes like soda pop, it might be a boy. No fizz? Girl.
According to these theories, if you crave sweet things and have morning sickness, you could be having a girl. But craving savoury food and little to no morning sickness? Boy!
Turns out we're team blue!
